I am your County Councillor for Tavistock and Gulworthy and one of the two West Devon Borough councillors for Tavistock South East.
Many residents contact me seeking help and advice about local issues.
I like to keep in touch with residents and as many new residents have moved to Tavistock, you may not know that I have represented Tavistock since 2007 and Gulworthy since 2009.
Over the years I have worked with many different projects to support the area which is our home. I have recognised the significance of Tavistock being the only World Heritage Town in Devon.
How have I helped?
I led in culling repetitive road signs and street clutter making our ancient Market Town look more historic, plus it helped Tavistock become a dementia friendly town.
I pushed a wheelchair bound friend around the town and asked pram pushers to report access difficulties. This helped improve disabled access.
Tavistock has a Disabled Changing Room facility attached to the modern Adults Day Care Centre at Abbey Rise because I recognised disabled people didn't have a place to use the loo easily and with dignity.
The town was littered, so with two ladies we set up Tidy Tavi litter picking group, now in its 13th year.
Since 2009, I have been lobbying to get the Crowndale Household Waste and Recycling Centre replaced with a new facility. It has taken an age but finally Tavistock is due to have a new HWRC built next year. My lobbying was strong and relentless!
I work closely with the police and crime commissioner Alison Hernandez and together we helped establish the Tavistock Police Museum plus the Tavistock Police front desk is to be re-opened.
I worked with the West Devon voluntary service to establish the Tavistock Health and Wellbeing Alliance.
This ever-increasing round table statutory and voluntary group work together and we created a hard copy and regularly updated "InTouchTavi" which became an invaluable resource during the Covid pandemic.
Tavistock became one of the leading areas to help with Social Prescribing, where in GP practices, volunteers were able to offer advice where lonely people could take up hobbies or volunteer.
These are a few examples where I have led or supported the Community as your councillor.
As your local County Councillor I don't stop listening to your local needs an issues.
