As you may know we are delighted that Sir Geoffrey Cox was returned as our MP for a sixth time since 2005. The count went on till 6 am and our candidate arrived to give a very heartfelt thank you to everybody concerned. Here is a short video of his speech.
We are now in a different era and we are finding a little flurry of new members joining us, who will hopefully be quick enough to be within the qualifying period in order to be able to vote for leader when the election comes later in the autumn. If you know anybody who wants to join please do so as soon as possible on conservatives.com/join.
As far as your Association is concerned, our relatively new Officer team headed up by Debbie Flint, voted Chair in April, Ken Hind our Deputy Chair Political from Bideford, and Evan Williams, our Young Conservatives Chair, new DCM&F Lee Watts from Holsworthy and myself, a local activist for more than three decades, are all keen to see you at our events.
What about becoming a member of our Patrons Club? For a monthly donation, you get some smashing events. We have a fabulous speaker, Gareth Streeter, historian & author, talking about the times of Henry the seventh and Henry the eighth, at our Patrons event on the 6th of September. Please email us for information, and find out more here.
We have a garden party in the offing just awaiting confirmation of date and venue.
We also have our Winter Dinner already in the schedule, on the 23rd of November, probably near Tavistock. (And there is also a Devon area event where the speaker is likely to be Suella Braverman, on the 1st of November. Separate details for that can be found here.
If you would like to talk to one of us prior to joining please feel free, you can call our new office mobile number on 07577 547127.
We welcome anybody new to the area who has been interested in Conservative membership previously. And anyone for whom it’s time to start giving us a chance, now that things have changed so much.
There are WhatsApp groups with chats available, an upcoming Policy forum, and we have plans to start campaigning soon, for our county elections next May, to keep up the camaraderie that we found amongst the volunteers during the general election campaign. It really was heartwarming to be out in like-minded company even if we shared some reservations about what’s been going on in Westminster together!
Thanks to everybody involved in the local campaign, it means a lot to know we had such amazing support for our candidate. Our Chair Debbie Flint welcomed everyone who helped out in the campaign, to her home last weekend for a splendid afternoon garden party / thank you event with Pimms and strawberries – and the sun shone on us all! Thanks to everyone who helped to make the afternoon such a success.
And of course hearty congratulations once again to Sir Geoffrey and his loyal wife Lady Jeanie Cox.
For now I wish you all the best.
Your president
Mrs Marion Perkin
