West Devon Conservatives deliver for West Devon
VALUE FOR MONEY
We have steered the Council’s finances through 4 very difficult years with independent auditors praising the way West Devon “operates and looks after its finances”. Local businesses praised our quick distribution of Covid grants.
Our top priority is delivering value for money. Our plan will support families, and businesses with a well below inflation increase of 14p/week Band D Council Tax.
LOCAL ECONOMY
We will actively seek investment into the local economy to create jobs and training opportunities and to boost wages.
We will invest £1m of UK Shared Prosperity Funding over 3 years to support greener businesses and farmers and active travel.
CLIMATE CHANGE
We have reduced the Council’s carbon footprint, helped local residents recycle more, planted trees and set up rewilding areas. We are also holding developers to very high environmental standards.
We will invest £1m of UK Shared Prosperity Funding over 3 years to support greener businesses and farmers and active travel.
TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE
Conservative councillors played key roles in delivering the Okehampton rail service. We have secured £13.5m to add a station on the east of the town and are working with partners to reinstate the rail link from Tavistock to Plymouth.
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
We have met targets for affordable home in West Devon, with more than 200 delivered since 2018. With priority given to families with a local connection, these homes are helping people afford to remain in the communities they grew up in.
Through a mix of open market, affordable and assisted-living housing, we will address the housing need in West Devon and help residents find the right home.
COST OF LIVING
To help families struggling with food and fuel bills we set up a Household Support Fund to provide rapid short term assistance to residents. We have also provided additional funding for community organisations that support struggling families.
REFUGEES
We have been proud to help more than 200 refugees, most from Ukraine, fleeing war and violence to settle in West Devon. Mostly women and children, we helped with housing and worked with Devon County Council on school placements.
LOCAL FACILITIES
We will continue to support Meadowlands and Parklands Leisure Centres and help residents lead active lifestyles.
WASTE & RECYCLING
Unlike Labour-run Exeter or Independent-led Mid Devon which have fortnightly recycling collections, Conservative-run West Devon will have weekly collections and will maintain them.
