The Torridge and Tavistock Conservative Association is delighted to announce that the Right Honourable Sir Geoffrey Cox KC has been adopted unanimously as the Conservative candidate for Torridge and Tavistock in the forthcoming General Election on 4 July 2024.
Geoffrey has lived with his family in the constituency for a quarter of a century and has been an outstanding MP for Torridge and for West Devon. He has provided a formidable and prominent voice for our constituency in Westminster and in recent years has brought unprecedented investment to our communities. Every year, he helps hundreds of individuals, businesses and community groups with the specific and often serious issues facing them. We could not have a better champion.
Sir Geoffrey Cox KC said: “I am proud and honoured to have been adopted as the Conservative candidate for Torridge and Tavistock. There is no greater privilege than to represent the people of Torridge and Tavistock and, if re-elected I will continue to fight for its communities and its people and to make their voice heard in the next parliament.”
Geoffrey has worked tirelessly as our MP for years, consistently putting in long days to obtain funding for our area, and Help for our constituents.
At this election, the country will face a straight choice between a Conservative Government that has navigated our economy through the most turbulent peacetime period since the Second World War, which is now turning the corner with the fastest growth in the G7 and lower inflation than the US and the EU, and, on the other hand, a Labour Government, with no clear plan and no convictions, that will take us back to square one in an increasingly uncertain and unstable world.
While the other candidates are playing politics, Geoffrey has set out a clear plan for our future focused on our shared priorities and which builds on his achievements of the last 4 years of the current parliament. he has been absolutely instrumental in making important developments happen. These include:
1. Torridge being 1 of 20 areas to be chosen to share the £400 million Levelling Up Partnership Fund to be spent on local priorities
2. Obtaining £15.9 million for the Maritime Research and Development Centre at Appledore, reviving Appledore shipyard, obtaining £2 billion worth of contracts building Royal Navy vessels for ships and creating 300 jobs
3. Okehampton to Exeter railway line re-opened to be served with a new £14 million Parkway station and transport hub
4. Torridge has also benefited from £1million from the rural prosperity fund
5. Geoffrey secured an enquiry by the government into how Dartmoor is managed
All this is so that local people can get the skills they need and help to bring in new investment and businesses to the area. In addition to the above, Geoffrey has helped over 4055 constituents with their problems whilst in office through consecutive elections, and if re-elected will continue to do so.
